The Ntungamo district Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Joselyn Bata Kamateneti has criticized the way in which Karuruma Health Centre III is run.
This follows the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among directing Members of Parliament to go to their Constituencies to monitor the implementation of government programs and look at issues affecting their voters during Parliamentary recess of 20 days, where they are expected to be back in office by September 28, 2023.
Speaking to our reporter on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Kamateneti showed dissatisfaction of how Karuruma Health Center, located in her district is mismanaged and abandoned.
She revealed this during a phone interview with our reporter who was following up on the findings of different MPs about the performance and monitoring of government programs and service delivery.
Kamateneti said that, one of the challenges her district is facing is in the health sector which is still lacking, citing that some of the hospitals and health centers do not have enough medicine to cater for all the patients, while others are left unattended to.
She added that, the health workers are trying to deliver except for one In-charge identified as Godfrey Behana of Karuruma Health Centre III.
She noted that, she spoke to the concerned authorities to engage with the team concerned with addressing issues associated with the misuse of office.
Kamateneti said that, the Health Center in question has the best equipment and infrastructure, and is supposed to serve the areas of Kyafora parish, Kajara county and Nyabihoko Sub County, but the In-charge has abandoned the place and is always at his clinic in Rwashamaire Town Council.
“I have gone to Karuruma about three times and found that, there is no activity and sign of patients and health workers. You don’t even find a gate man,” she said.
Members of Parliament are currently on recess to consult with their constituencies and interact with voters to look at issues that affect them, and also follow up and monitor government programs like Parish Development Model (PDM), Youth Livelihood Programs (YLP) Uganda Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP), and Emyooga, among others.
