The Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) has warned motorists and residents to expect traffic disruptions and diversions as periodic maintenance begins on the 6-kilometre stretch of the Namugongo–Misindye–Seeta Road in Mukono District starting Thursday, March 12, 2026.
In a statement issued on March 6, 2026, Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa said the maintenance works are expected to last up to twelve months.
The works will include reconstruction of damaged shoulders, placement of asphalt concrete overlays on the carriageway and shoulders, and improvements to drainage systems aimed at enhancing road safety and driving comfort.
In a public notice, Waiswa said that during construction, traffic may be temporarily diverted or interrupted.
“Motorists are advised to follow traffic instructions and signage, exercise caution, and use designated diversion routes, including Bajja, Namutwe, and Bukeerere roads,” the notice stated.
The ministry apologized for any inconvenience caused by the works and urged the public to cooperate to ensure safe and orderly movement during the construction period.
The Namugongo–Misindye–Seeta Road serves as a key link connecting several communities, including Kireka, Kyaliwajjala, Sonde, Misindye, and Seeta to the Kampala–Jinja Highway, supporting both local and regional traffic.
The maintenance works aim to address pavement deterioration caused by increased traffic volumes, heavy loads, and drainage challenges. These issues have contributed to reduced riding comfort and increased safety risks.
Motorists and residents are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and stay updated on further announcements from the Ministry of Works and Transport during the repair period.
