A fatal road crush that occurred in Western Kenya has claimed the lives of over 48 people and left some 30 others severely injured.
The incident occurred when a truck reportedly lost control and rammed into other vehicles and pedestrians at a busy junction in the region.
A local Police commander, Geoffrey Mayek, said the incident took place on the highway between the towns of Kericho and Nakuru on Friday night.
“We are suspecting a truck that was being driven towards Kericho lost control and rammed into matatus (local minibuses) that were packed at a bus stop, running over those matatus and injuring passengers and pedestrians who were standing by the bus stop,” Mayek said.
A report from the Red Cross indicates that the truck rammed more than six vehicles and ran over pedestrians.
