The Archdiocese of Kampala is mourning the passing of Monsignor Expedito Magembe, a revered Catholic cleric and spiritual leader, who died today 9 May, 2025.
The 88-year-old Monsignor (Msgr) Magembe was the founder of Mt Sion Prayer Centre Bukalango, a renowned Catholic retreat site located in Wakiso District, which has for years served as a haven for prayer, healing, and spiritual renewal for thousands of believers across Uganda and beyond.
He also established Bukalango TV, a Catholic television station dedicated to spreading the message of faith and evangelism.
His death was confirmed by Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, who described him as a man of deep faith and unwavering commitment to the Church.
“Monsignor Magembe was a spiritual father to many, a builder of faith communities, and a pillar in Uganda’s Catholic charismatic renewal,” Fr Ssentumbwe noted.
Born in 1937, Monsignor Magembe was ordained into priesthood decades ago and went on to become one of the most influential figures in Uganda’s Catholic ministry.
He devoted much of his life to preaching, prayer, and offering spiritual counsel to Christians of all walks of life.
Many believers and non-believers have posted on social media to express grief and share memories of Msgr. Magembe’s impactful ministry.
