The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, together with the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces, have expressed their gratitude towards the European Union for the support extended over the years.
He thanked the European Union Ambassador to Uganda His Excellency Jan Sadek who had led a European Union delegation in Uganda for their constant support for the security apparatus in Uganda.
The EU delegates were meeting with Hon. Ssempijja and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Wilson Mbadi at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Mbuya on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, to discuss the engagements of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces in the region.
According to Minister Ssempijja, Uganda’s security remains calm as the country continues to contain traditional and non-traditional threats to the stability of the country.
Ambassador Sadek also lauded Uganda’s commitment towards peace keeping.
“I would like to thank Uganda and the UPDF for ensuring that the region is stable, secure and peaceful,” the Ambassador said.
H.E Sadek on behalf of the delegation extended condolences to Uganda following the attack on the Forward Operating Base in Somalia on May 26, 2023.
Among the delegates that attended the meeting were Italy’s Ambassador Massimiliano Mazzanti, Ireland’s Ambassador Kevin Colgan, Germany’s Ambassador Matthias Schauer, France’s Ambassador Xavier Sticker, Deputy EU Head of Delegation Guillaume Chartrain, Representatives from Belgium and Denmark, and the Military Assistant to the CDF, Brig Gen Irumba Tingira.
