Karamoja Affairs State Minister Agnes Nandutu is expected to appear before the Anti-corruption Court in Kampala on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 to answer charges related to the misuse of office and public property, resulting from the misappropriation of Karamoja iron sheets meant for the vulnerable group in the region.

During the previous court session that was presided over by Justice Jane Okuo Kajugo, Evelyn Bazibu, the Program Scheduler at NTV, told court in Kololo that she received 2,000 iron sheets on behalf of Nandutu, from the Office of the Prime Minister’s (OPM) Assistant Inventory Management Officer, Osbert Arinaitwe at the OPM store in Namanve, Mukono district.

Nandutu was the first minister to be committed to High Court for trial over the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) noted that, between the month of June and July 2022, at the OPM stores in Namanve, the minister unlawfully received 2,000 pre-painted iron sheets of gauge 28 and stamped with the OPM logo, which were meant for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Program, contrary to section 10(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009.
