The State Minister for Microfinance, Hon Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, successfully mediated a reconciliation among divided leaders in the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

During a high-profile rally in Masaka District dubbed “Buganda for Museveni,” held on October 10th, 2025, at Nakiyaga Village in Buwunga Sub-County, Kasolo brought together key figures who had been embroiled in disputes during the NRM primaries, including MP aspirants, sub-county chairpersons, and former NRM contestants.

Among these were; Hon Babirye Kityo, the Bukoto East MP aspirant, and Fred Kalema (Pax), a candidate vying for the same seat. Also brought together were Nalule Joanita, a Masaka District Woman MP contender, Seremba Mayanja (alias Nkoko) the Bukoto Central MP aspirant along with NRM chairpersons from Masaka district and Buwunga, Bukakata, Kyanamukaaka, and Kyesiiga sub-counties.

Delivering his speech at the gathering, the Minister urged all NRM leaders present to convene and bless Sarah Babirye Kityo, a Bukoto East MP aspirant to publicly symbolize forgiveness and unity.

“Before you leave the floor kneel down, all NRM Sub County and District chairperson come bless her and reconcile,” Minister Kasolo told Sarah Babirye Kityo, the Bukoto East MP aspirant.

In response, the leaders stood together, apologized to each other, and expressed their commitment to working together for the good of the NRM and the people of Masaka.

However, tensions mounted when Kalema Pax, the candidate for the Bukoto East parliamentary seat stepped on the podium to mend ties with former Youth MP Babirye Kityo whom he accused of cheating in Bukoto East Constituency NRM primaries.

Nevertheless, Hajji Haruna Kasolo contained the situation prompting moments of quietness and prayer which turned into jubilations.

“Stand up and hug one another, I feel so happy for this milestone and will bring lots of government services to you people”, the minister remarked.

Nalule Joanita, an NRM candidate for Women Representative (MP) Masaka after the reconciliation, pledged to work with the unified leadership in the district.

“We have united ourselves as NRM leaders, service delivery will blossom in the district unlike the last 10 years of opposition rule,” Nalule stated.

The rally also witnessed the presence of several NRM leaders, including Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko, the NRM Vice Secretary General, and MPs Migadde Ndugwa, the chairperson of the NRM Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, and Keefa Kiwanuka of Kiboga West, among others.

The “Buganda for Museveni” rallies are part of a wider strategy funded by sitting MPs from the region to rekindle support for President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM ahead of the 2026 general elections.
