The State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Industry), Hon David Bahati, has lost the Ndorwa West Constituency NRM parliamentary primaries to lawyer Eliab Naturinda Mporera.
According to official results announced by the Kabale District NRM Registrar, Barbrah Ainebyoona, on the evening of Thursday July 17, 2025, Counsel Naturinda received 25,027 votes, while Minister Bahati garnered 23,759 votes.
Speaking shortly after the announcement, Naturinda, 32, expressed gratitude to the electorate.
“I thank the people of Ndorwa West for trusting me with this responsibility,” he said. “I promise to serve with humility and commitment to our shared development agenda.”
In another race, former MP Andrew Aja Baryayanga secured the NRM flag for Kabale Municipality after a decisive victory in the party primaries.
Baryayanga polled 10,248 votes, representing 60.5% of the total, reclaiming political ground he previously held as an independent legislator from 2011 to 2021.
His closest rival, Sheik Kasimu Kamugisha—the incumbent NRM flag bearer since 2021 trailed with 4,132 votes (24.4%). Other contenders included Michael Byamungu with 1,743 votes (10.3%), Steven Byarugaba with 532 (3.1%), and Joseph Mutebile with 288 (1.7%).
