A military police officer identified as Corporal Collins Andebo, attached to Makindye Military Police, has shot dead his wife, Peroni Atulinda, a civilian support staff also working with the military police.

The Uganda police statement indicates that the tragic incident happened on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at around 7:00 a.m. as Atulinda was boarding a motorcycle when Corporal Andebo, who was dressed in civilian clothes and carrying an AK47 gun, started shooting at her, shattering her arm with bullets, and she fell down on the ground.

The statement added that, when Corporal Andebo saw Atulinda on the ground, he thought she was dead, and he then shot himself dead.

Corporal Andebo was a bodyguard for Ronald Kibuule, the former State Minister and was deployed at his home, where he left and came to Lusaka zone in Makindye division to commit an act of brutality.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, preliminary reports from the territorial police in Katwe show that the couple had a history of relationship issues for approximately five years, which later led to their separation and forced Atulinda to start renting for herself.

Owoyesigyire said that by the time the police reached the scene, Atulinda was still alive and was rushed to Nsambya Hospital, where she succumbed to her death due to the grave injuries she had sustained, and Corporal Andebo was pronounced dead upon his arrival at Mulago Hospital Casuality Ward.

He added that the corporal’s AK47 firearm and 13 bullet cartridges were recovered by police officers at the crime scene.

‘’Our officers at Katwe Police Station and the Military Police swiftly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Nsambya Hospital, where she died a few minutes on arrival, and now her body has been conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination,’’ Owoyesigyire revealed.

Additionally, Herbert Ssalongo Nsubuga, the LCI Chaiperson of Lusaka village, said that they were friends with Atulinda and that the deceased had separated a long time ago due to irreconcilable differences, hence the reason why she had started renting and living by herself in Katale zone.

He further revealed that the main cause of their separation was due to her husband wasting his salary on betting, which caused many fights between them whenever she would reprimand him about his betting obsession.

Owoyesigyire noted that statements are being recorded from witnesses to aid in the ongoing investigations to discover the real cause of the tragic incident.
