Midwife Arrested over Stealing Government Drugs worth 5M

A Ugandan midwife has been arrested and is currently being held at Luwero Central Police Station for being found in possession of government drugs estimated to be worth Shs 5million.

According to the Uganda National Drug Authority Spokesperson Abiaz Rwamwiri, the authority’s intelligence and enforcement team in liaison with Police tracked and arrested Harriet Namusisi after discovering and finding her with government drugs at her home.

He noted that, Namusisi had just been transferred from Bwaziba Health Center II to Luwero Hospital.

“A midwife at Luwero Hospital who had just been transferred from Bwaziba Health Center II has been arrested with drugs labelled NOT FOR SALE,” Rwamwiri said.

Rwamwiri said that the District Health Officer for Luwero District is conducting an audit to probe the source of the drugs. It is suspected that the drugs could have been stolen from her former workplace.

Harriet is currently facing two charges of illegal possession of government stores which contravenes section 316 of the Penal Code Act and Unlawful possession of classified drugs which contravenes section 27(2) of the National Drug Policy and Authority Act.
