Police in Masaka district have arrested three people in connection with the murder of a boda boda rider.

The incident happened over the weekend in Buyaga village, Kyanamukaka sub-county in Masaka district.

The police have identified the deceased as Henry Sekanjako, aged around his late twenties, a resident of Kimanya B in Masaka city, and a boda boda rider from the Aga Khan boda boda stage near the Masaka central market.

According to preliminary police reports, Julius Wasswa is the mastermind behind Sekanjako’s murder, and the culprits who carried out the murder are Matia Kalema and Mustafa Kiwogo.

The police added that Nakyanzi Birungi, Wasswa’s girlfriend, was also arrested so as to aid in the investigations into Sekanjako’s death.

Sekanjako was murdered by the suspects due to assumptions and allegations that he was having an affair with Wasswa’s girlfriend.

During an interview on June 18, 2024, Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said that Sekajanko was murdered in cold blood based on allegations and assumptions that he was sleeping with Wasswa’s girlfriend, and this is what prompted Wasswa to pay off Kalema and Kiwogo to exterminate Sekanjako.

Kasiirye added that on the said fateful day, Wasswa followed Birungi and found her being driven on Sekanjako’s boda boda, so he tipped the two culprits in Sekanjako’s movements, who came and attacked him, killing him instantly in cold blood, and afterwards took the deceased’s boda boda to police.

‘’We have arrested Kalema because, after killing Sekanjako, he is the one who took the deceased’s boda boda to police, and Kiwogo, a security guard who was guarding Buyaga Health Centre II, because he took part in this murder plot. However, Birungi was arrested so as to guide in the investigations since she was there when the deceased was attacked,’’ Kasirye disclosed.

Despite Wasswa being on the run, a manhunt for him has already started, and he will be caught; however, his other colleagues are going to be charged with murder.

Kasirye further urged people to stop mob justice because, in most cases, people are killed innocently just based on assumptions, just like how Sekanjako was killed because he was found riding Birungi on his motorcycle, then Birungi’s boyfriend started assuming that they were lovers and ended Sekanjako’s life.
