The Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) has urged mothers to prioritize their health through regular medical check-ups and to take an active role in safeguarding their families from life-threatening diseases.
Speaking at the Mothers’ Conference held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Namugongo Anglican Martyrs Shrine, UAC Board Chairperson Canon Dr. Ruth Ssenyonyi warned against the dangers of HIV, cancer, and tuberculosis.

“Prioritize routine medical check-ups, keep your children in school, and speak openly to your children about the real dangers of these deadly diseases,” she said.
Canon Ssenyonyi reminded mothers that they are the heart of the family, and their health and guidance are essential to shaping the future of their children and communities.
Rev. Simon Peter Ddembe, Director of Anglican Mission, also addressed the gathering, calling on Christian families to build resilience through prayer and trust in God.
Quoting Joshua 24:15, he said:“Storms test our roots of faith, but they are not signs that God has left us… As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Rev. Ddembe challenged mothers to return home as spiritual leaders, promoting prayerful living, financial responsibility, and generosity.
The women’s conference concluded the series of pre-Martyrs’ Day events at the Namugongo Anglican site, setting a spiritual and practical tone ahead of the June 3rd celebration.
