Kenyan authorities have launched a manhunt after Alloyce Ochieng, accused of murdering his ex-wife in Kolal-Nyasita village, allegedly ran away to evade police custody.
According to villagers, the incident occurred shortly after 8:00 am when Alloyce Ochieng attacked his wife, Laurine Ochieng, with whom they had separated but had come to pick up her daughter.
David Otieno, a neighbor to the ex-couple, said Laurine, Alloyce’s ex-wife, arrived at his home accompanied by her sister on a boda boda.
However, as she was leaving, Alloyce requested a brief meeting in his house to discuss a few matters privately.
According to him, Alloyce requested his mom, who was already in the house, to step out and locked Laurine in the house before he chopped her to death.
’’We heard Laurine helplessly screaming for help from inside the house, and we tried to intervene; however, all doors were locked, which shows that Alloyce had organized in advance to commit this crime,’’ Otieno disclosed.
Otieno disclosed that when the suspect had finished the act, he escaped through the window while scaring off the neighbors with a machete.
“When he realized that he had killed her, he opened the door and took off to an unknown destination,” said Otieno.
Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Everline Cherotich confirmed the incident and said police were actively pursuing Alloyce.
’’If anyone has information on Alloyce’s whereabouts, they should inform police immediately because he is a threat to the public and himself too.’’ Cherotich stated.
The police reported that the enraged in-laws retaliated by burning two houses in the suspect’s homestead.
Laurine’s body was taken to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Cherotich called upon married couples to resort to elders for more guidance, advice, and peaceful conflict resolution instead of resorting to violence.
