Manchester United (Man U) are heading to what is likely to be the worst season in recent times after losing 13 games in 35 played this season with only 54 points and a negative goal difference of three.

Manchester United lost 4-0 on May 6, 2024, to Crystal Palace, which means they conceded 81 goals in all competitions, their worst showing since the 1976–77 season. This would even get worse if the Red Devils fail to beat Arsenal at Old Trafford on May 12, 2024, and they play another tough opponent, Newcastle United, and finish the season with a game away at Brighton, who already beat United 3-1 at Old Trafford last year in September.

Manchester United’s only chance of silverware is in the FA Cup final against their rivals Manchester City, and with the current poor form of the Red Devils in addition to the injury crisis, the final is likely to be in favor of Pep Guardiola’s side, who have had an upper hand against Ten Hag’s United since the arrival of Guardiola at Etihad.

United is a club accustomed to challenging for a Champions League place on a yearly basis, but 2023/24 is looking like a season that fans will want to forget in a hurry.

After 35 Premier League games, the Red Devils found themselves in eighth place in the table. Out of the running for a top-four spot, they went out of Europe before the New Year after their worst group-stage performance ever; their Carabao Cup defense was ended on home soil by Newcastle United, and they have had the worst injuries for the season.

According to former Manchester United players, they feel that Man United manager, Erik Ten Hag should be sacked since he displayed the worst season in recent times.

Micheal Owen, a former United striker who played for the team from 2009–12, said the club’s board should cut their losses and sack Ten Hag before the end of the season, with an FA Cup final against Manchester City still to play for.

“He simply cannot manage the team next season. I just wonder; there’s just so much at stake; even if it’s only for four games, I wonder whether the board might just have to try to do something now and be quite radical about it,” Owen said.

Ex-United defender Ashley Young said that the club might fail to win any of their remaining games.

“It’s shambolic; everything about United’s defending was crazy, and if United put on displays like they have shown tonight, they will miss out,” Young added.

Manchester United is the second-most successful team in England, with 67 trophies, only two short of the leaders Liverpool, who have won a total of 69 trophies.

United woes started after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, who had won the club over 38 trophies in his 27-year tenure at the club, and ever since his departure, United has had six coaches who have all struggled to make United great again.
