Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will clash in an all-English UEFA Europa League final on May 21, after both sides cruised through their semifinal matches on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Tottenham secured a commanding 2-0 victory away to Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt, while Manchester United staged a comeback to overpower Athletic Club 4-1 in England. Having already held first-leg leads, both teams comfortably confirmed their places in the Europa League final with composed and convincing performances.

This will be the third all-English final in Europa League and UEFA Cup history. The previous two were Chelsea vs. Arsenal in 2019 and Tottenham vs. Wolves in 1972. This year’s showdown will take place at San Mames Stadium, the home of Athletic Club, where United had already shocked the hosts 3-0 in the first leg of the semifinal.

Despite their struggles in the Premier League, both clubs currently sit in the bottom half of the table, so the Europa League final presents a vital opportunity for redemption. Beyond the pursuit of silverware, the trophy guarantees a longed-for place in next season’s UEFA Champions League of 2025-2026.

In the second leg of their semifinal, Manchester United conceded an early goal but stormed back with four of their own to seal an emphatic victory. Mason Mount came off the bench to net a brace, while Casemiro and Rasmus Højlund also found the back of the net, capping off a dominant 7-1 aggregate win.

For Mount, who has battled injuries and inconsistent form throughout the season, the performance was a personal breakthrough.

“It’s been a long time coming,” he said. “I have worked hard in training and waited for the moment to make an impact. Today, it paid off.’’

Tottenham’s 2-0 victory in Norway was secured with goals from Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro, completing a convincing 5-1 aggregate triumph over Bodø/Glimt. The win also extends Spurs’ dominance over Manchester United this season; they have already beaten them three times: twice in the Premier League and once in the Carabao Cup.

Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, stressed the importance of concluding the campaign with victory, saying, “We need to win it.” If we do not, this means nothing.”

On the other side, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, who has famously said he always wins a trophy in his second season at a club, spoke with quiet confidence: “We are giving the fans something to dream about. We will just keep doing what we are doing.”

Both teams now turn their focus to the final, each aiming to cap a turbulent season with European glory and secure a return to the Champions League stage.
