The Makerere College old boys League continued to shine as they played game week 9 ahead of their last game two weeks from now.
Established in 1945, Makerere College also known as MACOS is one of the oldest schools in the country. Located on Makerere hill, it has produced great alumni in different fields including football.
According to Mark Ssesazi, the President of the Makerere College (MACOS) League, the league started in 2018 as a one day gala and as of Sunday, July 30, 2023, it plays its 3rd season with 11 football teams organized in classes and years of study.
“The league was started for networking and keeping the old boys and girls together, we have people from different years and keeping in touch helps us to build a relationship beyond school,” Ssesazi said.
We have had some challenges and with the third season coming to an end in a fortnight among them is mobilizing of old boys and girls to come to be part of the league and support their different teams,” Ssesazi added.
According to Howard Wodomal the Coordinator of the league, the MACOS league is played at Makerere University as their home ground but this season due to unavoidable circumstances they played from Kitante Hill Senior Secondary School grounds.
Wodomal says that it’s important for all old boys and girls to come and support their different teams and those that don’t have can come and create their own as they make the league stronger and better.
Apart from football, the MACOS league also does corporate social responsibilities (CSR) Where they fundraise and visit babies homes, Wodomal added.
As the games are played today 30th may 2023, on top of the league is Charlies shooters with 36 points as Cityzens are leading from the bottom with 9 points. The league will be concluded on August 13 2023 as they play week 10 for the final game.
The MACOS league is sponsored individual teams through subscription fees to be part of the league and every individual team has its own sponsors others are sponsored by individual members whereas some by private companies such as Safari homes, Pepsi, Ovol Company among others.
