The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) has dismissed reports claiming that a tractor belonging to the National Oil Palm Project (NOPP) was set ablaze by residents of Bulima and Bukayo villages in Buvuma District.
The Ministry described the allegations, which suggested community unrest over land grading for project activities, as entirely baseless.
In an official statement released on October 13, 2025, MAAIF confirmed that no such incident occurred in Buvuma or any other project area. All NOPP equipment remains intact, and project operations are continuing as planned.
Maj Gen David Kasura Kyomukama, the MAAIF Permanent Secretary, emphasized that the land being graded was lawfully acquired for oil palm development under Uganda’s National Agriculture Transformation Agenda.
“No private or community land is being used without consent or compensation,” Maj Gen Kyomukama stated.
The Ministry further clarified that the ongoing land preparation is part of routine project activities aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and promoting inclusive development.
MAAIF emphasized its commitment to using land transparently and lawfully, and to working peacefully with local communities, district leaders, and development partners.
The Ministry also urged the public and media to verify information through official channels before sharing, to prevent the spread of misinformation.
“We call upon all stakeholders to disregard these false reports and continue supporting the transformative work of the NOPP,” Maj Gen Kyomukama said.
MAAIF’s firm response highlights its determination to maintain transparency and public trust while advancing Uganda’s vital agricultural projects, promoting sustainable investment, and improving livelihoods across the country.
