Luwero, Uganda – June 13, 2025 — In a landmark move to enhance judicial services and promote access to justice, the Luwero District Local Government has officially handed over land for the construction of High Court in the district.
The ceremony was presided over by key district leaders including Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Richard Bwabye Ntulume, Chairperson LCV Mr. Kibirango Erasto, and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (DCAO) Mr. Senku Samuel Kimuli.
The handover marks a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to decentralizing judicial services and bringing them closer to the people of greater Luwero.
The judiciary team, led by Justice Godfrey Himbaza, was warmly welcomed by the district leadership, who expressed deep gratitude for the judiciary’s strategic decision to establish High Court in the area.
Speaking at the event, RDC Richard Bwabye Ntulume emphasized the importance of the project.
“This initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving public service delivery and ensuring that justice is accessible to all Ugandans, regardless of their location. We are proud to support this transformative project that will benefit the people of Luwero immensely.” he stated.
Chairperson LCV Kibirango Erasto echoed these sentiments, urging the community to rally behind the project.
“The construction of the High Court will not only enhance legal services but also spur local development through infrastructure growth and job creation. We call upon the people of Luwero to embrace and support this visionary endeavor.” he emphasized.
Justice Godfrey Himbaza expressed his appreciation to the district leadership’s proactive approach, “We commend Luwero District for their foresight and commitment to justice. This partnership is a testament to what can be achieved when government and judiciary work hand in hand for the welfare of the people. We pledge our full dedication to making this project a success.”
The establishment of the High Court in Luwero is expected to reduce the burden on neighboring courts, shorten travel distances, and expedite the dispensation of justice. Additionally, the project promises to create employment opportunities during and after construction, further stimulating the local economy.
This development aligns with the national government’s broader agenda of strengthening institutions and improving service delivery at the grassroots level.
