The interim president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, based in Katonga, has cautioned Ugandan politicians against using footage of people with fatal illnesses to gather political capital in the country.

According to Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, it has become a trend for self-seeking politicians to post video recordings of sick people on their social media platforms to solicit likes and reflect that they have supported the victim.

Lukwago made the remarks during the meeting of different political activists and leaders of different political formations held at the FDC Katonga offices on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, who were praying and paying tribute to the late Adam Mulwana.

“I saw Balaam of the MK Movement recording our brother, Hon. Segirinya, while in Nairobi for special treatment. Balaam lured him to accuse the NUP leaders of abandoning him. That practice should stop,” Lukwago said.

“Stop using sick people as jukeboxes because not everyone who renders support to the sick comes out to say I did this and that,” he added.

Frank Gashumba said that he supported Lukwago’s idea because it has become a trend for people to take pictures with patients, and such people only visit the patient for personal, selfish social media likes.

“Why would you visit Ssegirinya in Nairobi and take a picture with him in such a state? That is bad, and it should stop,” Gashumba said.

Rtd.Col. Dr.Kizza Besigye said the contribution of Comrade Mulwana to the struggle through his music is invaluable, and his legacy will live on, adding that every individual should do all they can in sacrifice for the liberation struggle of the country without expecting immediate gratification and reward.

The late Adam Mulwana, a political activist and artist, sang the famous FDC campaign song ‘TOKA KWA BARA BARA,’. He will be laid to rest later this afternoon at Buziranduulu, Luweero District, at 2:00 p.m.
