This followed a joint operation led by Lt Ssempijja Charles on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Tega Village, Kabanga Parish, Najjembe Division.

Acting on a tip-off, the Territorial Police in Lugazi District swiftly moved in, leading to the arrest of three men believed to be responsible for dismantling critical electricity infrastructure.

The arrested individuals are; Mugweri Dennis Waiswa, 34, a foreman at HASO Engineering Company, residing in Namengo Kiteredde Central, Namengo Parish, Lugazi Central Division, Lunanoba Rashid, 21, a bodaboda cyclist from Kasoga Village, Kabanga Parish, Najjembe Division; Abiti Philip, 21, a eucalyptus tree loader from the same village.

According to police reports, Mugweri Dennis allegedly provided a support rod for an electric pole to Lunanoba Rashid, who then enlisted Abiti Philip to assist in digging it up.

The investigation led police to Mugweri Dennis’s residence in Namengo Kiteredde Central, where they uncovered further evidence.

Among the items seized were climbing rods, cables, and other items, which he claimed belonged to his employer, Kajimu John, from Jinja.

During a follow-up search at Abiti’s residence, officers recovered a 2-foot electric cable believed to have been part of the stolen infrastructure.

However, Abiti insisted he was innocent, accusing Lunanoba of dragging him into the crime.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents as such cases disrupt essential services in the region.

The three suspects are currently in custody at Lugazi Central Police Station, as investigations continues.
