Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago has asked suppliers, service providers, and contractors of the Keep Kampala Clean project to always deliver quality work on time.
He made the remarks on June 8, 2023, while officiating the 3rd edition of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Suppliers Conference 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya.
According to Lukwago, the purpose of this engagement is to do some evaluation or assessment of KCCA and other stakeholders’ service delivery.
“I always feel bad when I see contractors leaving sites because payment has been delayed. Why not build capacity to do and finish work and wait for the payment?” he said.
KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, who was also in attendance, said that as an institution entrusted with both public and donor funds, KCCA must continuously work to ensure an efficient procurement process that fully meets the minimum procurement requirements of fairness, quality, timeliness, and value for money.
“Attainment of such a process requires KCCA to work with a multitude of interested parties, including the Government of Uganda, the Development Partners, suppliers, internal users, and the public, whose aspiration for a better and smarter city is the reason we have convened today,” Kisaka said.
“In order to fulfill its mandate, achieve its vision of a vibrant, attractive, and sustainable city, and deliver quality services to the city’s residents, KCCA must procure a significant volume of goods and services,” she added.
The theme of this year’s KCCA Suppliers Conference 2023 is “The Impact of the PPDA Amendment Act 2003 on the Procurement of Works and Consultancy Services.”
