The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has asked Members of Parliament to gather all the pending pledges made by the government over the years in their various constituencies so they can fulfill them.

These remarks were made by MP Mathias Mpuuga, representing Ssenyonyi, on Thursday, February 22, 2024, during a two-day induction workshop for Members of Parliament on the Committee of Government Assurances and Implementation.

Mpuuga encouraged legislators to single out every promise that the government made but has failed to fulfill.

“Over time, the ruling party has been making promises that they have failed to fulfill, which explains why the attrition rate of accountability by our colleagues in the NRM is high, which is not the case with opposition MPs. They are very active in demanding accountability and services for the people,” Mpuuga said.

The committee, chaired by Abed Bwanika and Joyce Bagala, is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the government’s pledges and other commitments to the people of Uganda.

Recently, a number of legislators were re-designated to various sector committees following a directive from the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
