Lira District’s top officials are in trouble over alleged mismanagement of funds meant to facilitate the implementation of Universal Primary Education activities.

The detectives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit have camped in the district, extracting statements from the officials.

Mariam Natasha, the spokesperson of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), confirmed the ongoing investigation into the mismanagement of capitation grants, adding that no arrest has so far been made.

“No one has been arrested, and investigations are still ongoing,” said Natasha.

On Wednesday, the team interrogated several officials, including head teachers and the district internal auditor, among others.

It is alleged that the head teachers have been picking money from the UPE fund to cover their monthly contribution to the Head Teachers’ Association.
