The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has said that Uganda’s capacity for experimentation, adaptation, and learning from mistakes has prompted its development and established it as an innovative center on the African continent.

Tayebwa made the remarks while presiding over the opening of the 4th National Project Management Conference on June 7, 2024, at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel.

According to Tayebwa, project managers have been at the forefront of embracing innovation, whether it is through mobile technology, improving healthcare access in rural areas, or adopting green energy solutions for sustainable agricultural practices. They have embraced innovation as a catalyst for progress.

“I want to commend the Project Management Institute (PMI) for taking this matter of innovation very seriously,” he said.

Additionally, the deputy speaker challenged the project managers on priorities for the next decade and beyond, including empowering local expertise, promoting inclusive development, harnessing digital solutions, sustainable resource management, and building resilience.

“While congratulating the project managers of the last decade, I challenged them on the priorities for the next decade and beyond: empowering local expertise, promoting inclusive development, harnessing digital solutions, sustainable resource management, and building resilience,” Tayebwa said.

Tayebwa commended the team headed by Eng. Irene Nattabi, the President of PMI Uganda, for the invitation after 10 years of impressive advancements in cooperation and creativity in the nation’s project management profession.

In 2005, the PMI Uganda Chapter was officially established as a local chapter of the Project Management Institute.
