Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba has announced a Shs600 million physical development plan for Mityana Municipality, positioning the town to benefit from major infrastructure upgrades under the World Bank-funded USMID program.

Nabakooba said that Mityana Municipality had been added to the first phase of the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program, a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at improving urban infrastructure.

According to her, the physical development plan for the municipality had also been secured, which would have otherwise cost the district Shs600 million.

“With this plan, Mityana can now attract structured investments and development,” she said.

She made these remarks during a function at Kiyinda-Mityana Cathedral Parish in Mityana District to commemorate 61 years since the founding of the parish in 1964.

The minister, who also confirmed she will seek re-election in the 2026 general elections, praised the Cathedral’s contributions to the region’s development, including the newly launched Cardinal Wamala Gardens, designed to support Church activities financially.

Minister Nabakooba shakes hands with Rev Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe from the Kampala Archdiocese during the function.

During the thanksgiving Mass, led by Rev Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe from the Kampala Archdiocese, called on the faithful especially the youth to live by Christian values and respect the elderly.

Fr Male condemned recent reports of young people forcefully seizing property from their grandparents, including one incident in which an elderly woman was pressured to deny having donated land to the Church.

“Youth should instead help the elderly enjoy the last days of their life, not rob them of their dignity and possessions,” he said.

The event also featured special prayers for the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, ahead of his 32nd coronation anniversary. Buganda Kingdom Minister Joseph Kawuki, representing the Katikkiro, assured attendees of the Kabaka’s improved health and continued service to the kingdom.

Leaders concluded the function with a call for political tolerance as the 2026 elections approach, urging citizens to reject divisive politics and maintain unity.
