The State Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Sam Mayanja has appreciated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for laboring to introduce digital systems to improve the land sector.

According to Mayanja, before 2023, the Lands Ministry was being given the smallest budget allocation, however the President intervened.

“We thank President Museveni who recently decreed and ordered that at least 10% of what the Lands Information System earns should be deducted as source to remain in the Ministry,” Mayanja said.

He also urged senior members of the ministry to amend the old Land Law in order to solve land matters.

“Land is the source of all prosperity in the country so with the help of the world bank, we should amend certain laws such as reducing the time it takes to register land in Uganda, that involves 27 steps. That is a lot to go through,” Minister added.

Dr. Mayanja said this during the closing ceremony of the National Land Conference 2023, held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, under the theme “Mobilizing Stakeholders to Modernize Land Management.”
