The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, has asked the government, whom he termed propagandists, to leave him out of their homosexuality talk.

He made these remarks while addressing the press at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, on December 12, 2023.

The NUP president said that the regime propagandists are trying as much as they can to drag him into their homosexuality talk.

“Get me out of your loose talk. I know you are trying to drag my name down, but I am so clever and wise not to engage in such talk,” Kyagulanyi said.

This came as a retaliation to the criticism that arose from his speech on BBC while in the United Kingdom, where he stated that his earlier remarks on killing homosexuals in one of his songs were made out of ignorance, noting his growth and change since, which to many implied that he was now in full support of the homosexuality vice.

In his response, Kyagulanyi said, “In my song, I made those lyrics, but then I was still young, and I cannot make the same remarks because I am a leader now.”

He noted that, as a leader, he ought to be tolerant of all people, whether he agrees with them or not, adding that his stand on homosexuality is clear and he has proof of family for that.

“I have a wife and children; do you want me to call Barbie here and kiss her to prove it to you? No amount of propaganda is going to stop us from standing for human rights, which has put the government under pressure to repeal the anti-homosexuality law,” Kyagulanyi added.

He was flanked by the Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, Hon. Nambeshe, Party Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, Hon. Medard Ssegona, Hon. Zaake Francis, Hon. Kivumbi Muwanga, Chairman Nyanzi, and other party leaders at different levels.

Kyagulanyi has been accused by some regime loyalists and Ugandans at large of being an agent of foreign powers for failing to openly state his stand on whether he supports gay rights or not.
