Kyagulanyi Appeals for Global Actors to Confront Electoral Violence During Campaigns

“The international community, such as the European Union, the African Union, and the United Nations, is watching what’s happening in Uganda, and I wonder whether you are waiting for a massacre in Uganda so you can act or speak out,” Kyagulanyi said.

National Unity Platform (NUP)party, Presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has called upon the international community and human rights defenders to step in to end the alleged ongoing violence orchestrated by the security agencies during presidential campaigns.

He made his appeal while addressing the press members of the press on Monday, December 8th, 2025, at the NUP leadership school offices in Kamwokya.

“The international community, such as the European Union, the African Union, and the United Nations, is watching what’s happening in Uganda, and I wonder whether you are waiting for a massacre in Uganda so you can act or speak out,” Kyagulanyi said.

According to Kyagulanyi, the security forces are provoking the citizens to confront them, thereby forming a basis for violence and torture against the citizenry.

“We are aware that the regime is provoking the citizens so that the citizens can respond by throwing rocks at them, for the security to get justifications to massacre them, so that they can respond,” Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi also called upon the international media to expose the alleged ongoing brutality of the security forces against his supporters.

“We call upon the international media to speak out and to act, and also call out on Museveni and his officials to respect the commitments of human rights that they are signatories to,” Kyagulanyi said.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has released a statement in which it condemned the alleged brutality during the campaigns

According to Justice Simon Byabakama, the EC Chairperson, a duly nominated Presidential Candidate has the prerogative to campaign in all parts of the country, provided he is acting in line with the law and guidelines of the EC.

“If there is any disagreement on any matter on the campaign trail, the commission appeals for dialogue, not violence and confrontation,” Byabakama said.

However, according to Kituuma Rusoke, the police spokesperson, the police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the confrontation that happened in Gulu between the NUP supporters and security on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, during the Campaign trail.

Kyagulanyi is currently in Nakawa East to spread his gospel of protest vote on behalf of his Deputy spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, who is contesting for the Member of Parliament seat.
