Kisoro District Health Sector Gets Big Boost

Kisoro District health sector has received a significant boost following the delivery of essential surgical equipment by the Woman MP Akifeza Grace Ngabirano.

On Monday, Akifeza personally handed over critical theatre machines including an X-ray film viewer, surgeon’s stool, patient monitor, operating lights, and ceiling mounts to Kisoro District Hospital and Busanza Health Centre IV.

Two units were installed at the main hospital, with a third sent to Busanza, a key facility serving remote communities.

For years, Kisoro’s patients requiring advanced surgical procedures have had to travel to Kabale, Mbarara, or even Mulago National Referral Hospital journeys that can be both financially and physically draining.

MP Akifeza says the equipment will cut those trips, allowing patients to access life-saving interventions locally.

“These machines will reduce the need for patients to travel far for surgery. We want quality healthcare accessible right here in Kisoro,” she said.

This follows the Ministry of Health’s recent donation of a blood bank to Kisoro General Hospital, part of a wider push to expand local medical capacity.

District Health Officer Steven Nsabiyunva described the equipment as a “game changer” for Kisoro’s overburdened health facilities.

“This will improve our surgical services significantly and reduce the burden on patients,” he noted.

Dr. Bahane Emmanuel of Kisoro Hospital added that the improved theatre capacity will not only help patients but also reduce the workload and stress on healthcare workers.

Akifeza’s latest effort reinforces her profile as a legislator focused on tangible constituency projects.
