Adson Atuhaire, the Deputy LCV of Kiruhura District has been arrested by the territorial Police in Rwizi and Mbarara CPS for allegedly raping a 20-year-old female student.

Police report indicates that, the arrest occurred on September 19, 2023 after tracking the suspect.

According to SCP Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, on September 8, 2023, at around 2:00pm, Atuhaire, 30 years, who was in the company of other people driving a Toyota Premio, registration number UAT 238Q, exchanged contacts with the victim in Rwentondo, Kakoba ward,  Mbarara City, after she had given them directions to Golden Leaf Bar.

“Later that evening, he called the victim and offered to take her out for an evening. He picked her from the hostel at Kakoba Kyapatoni cell, went and bought groceries and snacks,” Enanga said.

Enanga added that, on their way back, the suspect took a different route and along the way, raped the victim.

“The matter was reported to police, and the suspect was arrested while his motor vehicle was also impounded,” Enanga said.

Police cautioned young women to be extra careful when moving out with strangers, especially when alone.

The police crime report of 2022 shows that, at least 1,486 cases of rape were registered at various police stations in the country. A total of 1,396 were female while 90 were female juveniles.
