Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has met with his Rwandan counterpart, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), at the RDF headquarters in Kigali to discuss bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was held on August 12, 2024, after President Paul Kagame’s swearing-in ceremony, which Gen Kainerugaba attended at the Amahoro Stadium on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
“This engagement highlights the strong relations between Uganda and Rwanda, built on mutual trust and cooperation,” Gen Kainerugaba said.
He highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in addressing security challenges in the region.
The meeting marks a pivotal moment in strengthening the ties between the two nations, as both military leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing security cooperation and fostering peace in the East African region.
Gen Kainerugaba emphasized that the meeting was a return visit following Gen Muganga’s visit to Kampala in May this year, reinforcing the ongoing security dialogues between the two countries.
The discussions were attended by senior military officials from both nations, including Maj Gen James Birungi and Brig Gen Richard Karemire from Uganda together with Lt Gen Vincent Nyakarundi from Rwanda, where they focused on pressing bilateral and regional security matters.
