Police in Kiboga have arrested three suspects found transporting two stolen cows in a Toyota Hiace taxi in Lufula Cell in Kiboga Town Council, Kiboga district.
The incident that happened on September 18, 2024, involved Paul Kamya, 18, from Mityana district; Ronald Kayizi, 35, from Watuba Sub County in Kyankwanzi; and Rashid Kibombo, 27, a taxi driver from Kayunga in Wakiso district.
In an interview with journalists on September 18, 2024, the Wamala region police spokesperson, Rachael Kawala, confirmed this incident and revealed that the three were arrested after one of the butcherers in Lufula Cell in Kiboga Town Council informed police that they were three suspects who were selling cows without any documentation, yet it was illegal and suspicious.
Kawala added that the call prompted the authorities to arrest them, and upon questioning where they had gotten the cattle from, they gave different answers, which confirmed the suspicions.
’’These suspects had piled the two stolen cows in a Taxi registration number UAY 374M, and according to our investigations, they might have stolen these cows from Busunju; however, we are going to do our best to find the owner of these cows,’’ Kawala disclosed.
Kawala added that the three suspects, together with the taxi they used to transport the stolen cows, are currently at Kiboga Police Station.
She further applauded the butcherer who reported these culprits to police and advised him to continue doing the same if such cases arise again.
Cattle theft has remained a significant issue in Kiboga and surrounding districts, with multiple incidents reported and ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat this crime. In July 2024, police dismantled a major cattle theft operation linked to Kiboga whereby the stolen animals were allegedly being transported to an abattoir in Hoima by five suspects. Upon arrest, one suspect admitted to stealing them from Lwamata Town Council in Kiboga district.
