The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials have conducted an impromptu supervision visit to Kitebi and Kawala Health Centers to asses and monitor the quality of health care and standard operating procedures.
The officials spent Tuesday, December 10, 2024, inspecting the health centres and interacting with patients to monitor various aspects, which included patient care, hygiene and sanitation, record keeping, among others.
The KCCA Acting Director of Public Health and Environment, Sarah Zalwango, revealed that the cleanliness and sanitation conditions of the facilities were assessed to maintain a healthy environment for both patients and staff at these health centres.
The two health centres, among others across Kampala, including Kiswa, Kawaala, Kitebi, and Kisenyi health facilities, were constructed to meet the diverse needs of the city population.
‘’This is something we have been doing, and we shall keep doing to make sure sanitation is observed,’’ Zalwango said.
According to Zalwango, such checks are essential to fast-track the availability of essential medications and medical supplies to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to the patients.
However, she emphasized that the staff in these health centers should consider record keeping since accurate documentation mitigates risks and reduces the chance of a successful malpractice claim.
‘’A well-documented record serves as evidence of treatment and care, helping to ease accountability concerns in the event of a claim.’’ Zalwango stated.
According to KCCA, these surprise inspections aim to identify any shortcomings and take corrective actions to ensure that all clients receive better standard health care in government hospitals.
The officials observed interactions between healthcare providers and patients to ensure that patients were treated with respect and compassion while getting treatment.
KCCA remains committed to providing quality healthcare services to all residents of Kampala. Through regular supervision and monitoring, they strive to maintain high standards and address any issues that may arise.
