The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at transforming Kampala into a cleaner, greener, and more liveable city.

Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre (UMC) on August 4, 2025, Sharifah Buzeki, KCCA Executive Director, outlined key priorities including the expedited operationalization of the Buyala landfill, completion of ongoing road rehabilitation, and the extension of traffic signalization to at least 22 new intersections.

“Creating a liveable Kampala is a collective responsibility,” Buzeki said.

She emphasized the importance of partnerships with government agencies, communities, and the private sector to address major urban challenges such as waste management, flooding, traffic congestion, and access to public services.

According to Buzeki, there is a need for increased funding to acquire more garbage trucks for all parishes and expand the city’s ambulance fleet.

As Kampala prepares for upcoming national and local elections, she urged residents to maintain calm, protect public infrastructure, and adhere to guidelines governing campaign activities to ensure peaceful participation.

The Executive Director also announced the return of the Kampala City Festival on August 6, 2025, at City Hall, describing it as a celebration of Kampala’s culture, innovation, and community spirit.

KCCA recently exceeded its revenue collection targets for the 2024/25 fiscal year by achieving 106% of the set goal. The authority also registered nearly 30,000 new taxpayers and improved property rate collections.

Additionally, over 70 kilometers of roads have been rehabilitated under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP).

Buzeki expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, government ministries, city political leaders, and KCCA staff for their support in driving the city’s urban transformation agenda.
