Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has opened up the Katonga Bridge section along the Kampala-Masaka highway. This follows efforts made to reinstate the bridge traffic flow.

However, UNRA has stated that the bridge shall be used for strictly light traffic that includes Motorbikes, saloon cars, station wagons/SUVs, 14-seater taxi or vans and a 28-seater coaster.

According to a press statement issued by UNRA on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, further structural integrity assessments shall be carried out to determine the use of the bridge by heavier vehicles.

“Therefore buses, lorries and trucks of any type are prohibited from using the bridge until further notice. Other interventions will continue with the objective of reinstating the road to its full use in the shortest time possible,” the statement read in part.

The bridge shall be a one lane access and therefore travelers should expect a bit of delays. Drivers are required to strictly follow the guidelines of the traffic officers, signs, and the markings on the road for safety purposes.
