Following the killing of a Police officer during the raiding of the mobile money shop and a soda depot in Kasanda district on June 19, 2023, the Directorate of Crime Intelligence  in partnership with Nsangi Police have successfully tracked down an armed gang of robbers in connection with the murder incidence.

According to CP Polly Namaye, the Deputy Spokesperson of Police, the flying squad unit recovered an AK47 riffle that was grabbed from a Police officer of Nsangi Division on May 29, 2023.

“On the fateful day as the officer disembarked from the boda-boda near the Division Headquarters’ check point at Nsangi, criminals ridding on motorcycles arrived, grabbed the weapon and took off. Since then, the police has registered four mobile money incidences, including attempted murder by shooting of one of the victims who tried to make an alarm,” Namaye said.

Namaye said that the police reported an armed robbery in Mubende that was captured on CCTV and shared widely online.

“Police registered an armed robbery in Mubende as depicted on CCTV footage that went viral on social media and the murder of the Police officer of Kasanda CPL. Olaya Joseph who was part of the team that attempted to intercept the group as they fled on a motorcycle from the Scene. The suspects also grabbed a gun magazine belonging to the deceased,” she stated.

She stated that six suspects have been arrested and the motorcycle which they have been using in the robberies also recovered.

“We have since established interrogation and critical examination of the different scenes that the gun was the same one used in different robberies recently by this racket,” Namaye said.

Police argues the public to be vigilant, on alert and encourages anybody with information to report the case to a Police Station for further investigation.
