Karamoja MPs Demand Resignation, Apology from ULS President Ssemakadde

Ssemakadde’s utterances against the DPP were uncalled for and such words can only be said by a man with "diabolical brains." "He must be condemned for his action, resign, and apologize to Abodo and the whole Karamoja fraternity because it isn’t the first time that Ssemakadde is targeting the person of the DPP."

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Karamoja sub-region are demanding the resignation and an immediate public apology from Isaac Ssemakadde, the President of Uganda Law Society, accusing him of making vulgar and derogatory words against the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo, and also dragging Karamoja into his attacks.

The MPs made the demands on November 22, 2024, during a press briefing at Parliament.

John Baptist Lokii, the Matheniko County MP, wondered “if Ssemakadde was born through an anus instead of a vagina like all humans,” which he said could explain why he made reference to the DPP’s genitals.

“This isn’t only an insult to Abodo; it is an insult to the women in the whole world. It is an insult to God because he chose that there must be a woman and a man, but for you to abuse the creation of God, you must be a demon,” he said.

He added that Ssemakadde’s utterances against the DPP were uncalled for, saying that such words can only be said by a man with “diabolical brains,” adding that “he must be condemned for his action, resign, and apologize to Abodo and the whole Karamoja fraternity because it isn’t the first time that Ssemakadde is targeting the person of the DPP, having done so when she was first appointed as DPP, but the country ignored him at the time, thinking he would reform.”

Lokii noted that Ssemakadde’s remarks are also an insult to all the lawyers that voted him into office and urged him to package his words better whenever he is expressing his grievances, instead of resorting to vulgarity.

Joseph Komol (Dodoth North MP) weighed in on the criticism, saying, “The derogatory words, the vulgar words that were mentioned against Abodo and Karamoja are something surprising to the whole of Karamoja.”

Faith Nakut (Napak District Woman Representative) noted that although she acknowledges Ssemakadde’s desire to reform the Uganda Law Society by banging the table, his choice of words was unacceptable, and that the vulgar words made people in Karamoja uncomfortable.
