The police in Kanungu district have launched a manhunt for a 28-year-old man for assaulting his biological father, who died from several injuries.

The suspect has been identified as Amos Nuwagaba, who allegedly killed his father over coffee and fled to the Congo.

The incident happened on July 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM in Kyeshero Central Cell, Kyeshero Parish, Kyeshero Sub County, Kanungu District.

According to Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate, the deceased Emmanuel Bareeba, 73, blamed his son Nuwagaba for stealing his coffee and selling it without his consent.

“In retaliation, Amos punched his father in the lower abdomen and the rib area before he grabbed a stick to cain him severally. After the scuffle, his father reported the case to the chairman, Kyeshero. He became very ill in a nearby clinic, where he died,” Maate said.

Maate highly condemned such acts of violence derived from disagreements between parents and their children.

“I want to condemn this act. Once you have children, they are supposed to be your security, but this vice where a child does something to a parent as if he is a mere youth, we shall not allow,” Maate cautioned.

The spokesperson further elaborated that all efforts will be made to ensure that the suspect is apprehended in custody.

“Although he is on the run in the neighborhood, we shall make all efforts to ensure he is apprehended from wherever he is and repatriated,” he said.

Police in Kassanda recently arrested a 15-year-old for murdering his 50-year-old father, who came home drunk and harassed the mother and his siblings.
