Kampala is set yet to have an experience of a Street Food Fete in October 2023, with an aim of supporting street vendors in showcasing their potential in offering food varieties.
This was revealed by Pamela Adong, the co-founder of Idro’s street foods during its launch on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
The food Bazaar which is being organized by the Nation Media Group Uganda in partnership with Idro’s Foods is set to be held from October 8-9, 2023, at Motiv Bugolobi in Kampala.
Adong said that, the event aims at bringing all street food vendors together and showing their potential by offering different food varieties in the market.
“The aim of this event is to bring all food vendors together in showcasing their potential by offering different food varieties in the market,” she said.
She noted that the focus is to support street food vendors to grow their market share in the food value chain since most of them operate in small spaces and micro-environment. It is consequently their time to use this opportunity to be recognized and get exposure to the outside world.
According to Adong, the food fest looks forward to uniting all street food vendors around Kampala and the entire country and in the long run, unite all African street food vendors to expand the market.
Uganda Breweries Ltd (UBL) through the Tusker lite Innovations and Commercialization Executive manager, Rita Namusoke pledged to engage in a one month campaign by targeting universities and other areas, in order for people to appreciate street food vendors.
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on September 7, 2019, held the first of its kind “Food Street” Festival at Parliamentary Avenue.
The event is a reflection of other street food festivals that have been held in numerous cities around the world, for instance, Paris, Berlin, London, Manila and Brussels, among others.
