Kampala Bombing Suspects Committed to High Court on Terrorism Charges

Six suspected ADF terrorists linked to the two Kampala bombings in 2021 have been committed to the International Crimes Division of the High Court for trial.

The terrorists committed to court on March 14, 2024, have been identified as Kyeyune Isma, Walusimbi Musa, Mubiru Musa, Mwebe Muhammad, Kabanda Musa, and Kabongo Omar Ajobe, who are facing three counts, including terrorism, financing, and profiting from belonging to a terrorist organization.

It is alleged that the group trained a suicide bomber known as Uthman Mansur, who detonated himself along the IPS building in Kampala, which left several scores of civilians and police officers injured and others killed on November 16, 2021.

According to the prosecution, between 2007 and 2020, the six and other suspects still at large in areas of Central and Eastern Uganda, DRC, provided funds and rendered support through recruitment and training to the ADF while knowing that the support would be used to instigate acts of terrorism in Uganda.

The prosecution said it will provide evidence that in 2018, Kyeyune was a notorious robber in Kampala, where he was approached by core suspect Walusimbi, who recommended he be recruited in the ADF to rob the much-needed money to support rebel activities.

However, Kyeyune was trained by another core suspect, Kabanda, also known as musomesa, in jihadism, Islamic doctrines, karate, how to use guns, and how to manufacture improvised explosive devices before pledging allegiance to Islam and the ADF.
