The Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has dismissed as fake a social media poster alleging that she intends to run for President of Uganda in the upcoming 2026 general election.

In an official statement issued by her press secretary, Bishop Samuel, on Thursday, 18th September, 2025, Kadaga described the poster as entirely false and the work of dishonest and ill mannered individuals spreading misinformation to mislead the public.

“This claim is completely false and the handiwork of ill-intentioned individuals deliberately spreading fake news to mislead the public,” the statement partly read.

Kadaga clarified that she has no intention of contesting for the presidency, stressing that her focus remains on seeking re-election as the Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli District.

Her office urged the public to disregard such claims and rely only on official communication regarding her political aspirations.

“We advise the public and media to treat such misinformation with the contempt it deserves,” the statement added.

As the country heads toward the general election, Kadaga’s office emphasized its commitment to transparent communication and called on the public to remain vigilant against fake news.

Kadaga’s response highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in Uganda’s political space, highlighting the need for the public to verify information from credible sources as the nation prepares for the upcoming general election.
