Kabale Referral Hospital medical interns have asked government for security, proper accommodation and transport to and from work following the serious challenges they are facing in their areas of residents and on their way to the hospital.

In the letter addressed to Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director of Medical Services at Ministry of Health, interns expressed concern over lack of security and accommodation facilities provided to them, saying that they were forced to rent at a far distance from the hospital because of delays in releasing allowances and payments.

This comes after one of the female medical interns was attacked, robed and raped by unknown thugs on her way to the hospital on September 10, 2023.

The interns have expressed their concern and challenges they have faced in one month after their deployments.

The attacks are not only on female medical interns but also on the male where they recently got robed from their rentals.

“Delays of payments and insufficient appropriation of allowances often force inters to seek cheaper but distant accommodation or reside in unsafe areas,” the letter read.

The medical interns upon their deployment were meant to sleep in the hospital hostels, however, the contractor refused to handle over the hostel keys over unknown issues.
