Judicial Training Institute (JTI) convened a strategic planning meeting for trainers to empower judicial officials with skills to manage election-related conflicts before the upcoming 2026 general elections.
This forum brought together top judicial officials, election law experts, and moderators to further refine the recently developed Training Manual and Facilitators’ Guide on Resolution of Election Disputes for Judicial Officials in Uganda.
Justice Mike Chibita, Chairperson of the JTI Governing Council, during a trainers meeting of the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, commended the trainers’ dedication to their work, expertise and experience instrumental in ensuring that the impending training schedule for 3rd to 5th December 2025 is conducted with professionalism and precision.
He explained that the Manual had recently been piloted during the Chief Magistrates’ training on vote recounts and that feedback from that exercise had been used to refine its content.
According to Justice Prof Andrew Khaukha, JTI Executive Director, the planning meeting is meant to integrate the program as well as improve coordination before training High Court Judges in December.
“The faculty reviewed the draft program, aligning it with the manual’s goals and the Judiciary’s push for credible, timely, and consistent adjudication of electoral disputes,” Justice Prof Andrew Khaukha said.
The intro session outlined the manual’s scope: covering constitutional frameworks, petition procedures, evidence standards, and best practices for fair, swift resolutions.
Chaired by Justice John Eudes Keitirima, Head of the Family Division, and facilitated by Counsel Jude Byamukama with coordination from HW Mallen Obizu (Magistrate Grade I at JTI), the meeting featured Justices Phillip Odoki, Boniface Wamala, Christine Kaahwa, and Patricia Basaza Wasswa; Dr. Jennifer Angeyo from the Electoral Commission among others.
