Judiciary Equips 88 Magistrates with Skills for Judicial Service

The Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ), Richard Buteera has urged Grade one Magistrates to use their knowledge and skills to advance justice needs to the populace whose cries for justice and freedom is ever growing.

Buteera made these remarks while opening a two-week induction for newly recruited Magistrates at Colline Hotel-Mukono on October 30, 2023.

He noted that, the induction is meant to help the Magistrates appreciate the judicial ethics, valves and traditions of the system.

He implored the Magistrates to contribute ideas that will improve their places of work.

“There will always be challenges, but we should be on the side of solution givers not problem identifiers,” he added.

He called upon magistrates to be ambassadors of the Judiciary in order to reduce on the case backlog by carrying out meditation, plea-bargain, small claims procedure, and diversion of cases of juvenile offenders, arbitration, and reconciliation, among others.

Justice Mike Chibita, the Chairperson of the governing Council at Judicial Training Institute said that, Judiciary has no room for lack of integrity and laziness, adding that, the training will refresh knowledge and build capacity.

“The Judiciary has no room for lack of integrity and laziness,” Chibita said.

He noted that, the aim of the induction is to improve their work and increase the quality of service delivery, encompassing adjudication, management, best practices and judgment writing.
