A total of 11 cattle and four donkeys have been recovered in Kaboong District following a fierce confrontation between the joint security forces and warriors from Kenya.

The livestock had been raided from the Kalapata trading center community kraal in Kaabong Zone on Thursday early morning by a group of armed warriors from neighboring Kenya.

Mike Longole, the Mount Moroto regional police spokesperson, told Nexus Media the livestock were recovered from Kamion Sub county, along the border with Kenya, after a brief fire exchange with armed warriors.

IP Longole adds, “Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the warriors fled back to Kenya.”

He says the joint security forces, comprising the UPDF and other security agencies, worked tirelessly to track down the raided cattle and ensure their safe return to their rightful owner.

Longole said the recovered cattle are currently being held at the Kalapata joint security holding ground, where they will be handed over to their owner.

“This successful operation demonstrates the commitment of the joint security forces to combating cattle rustling and ensuring the safety and security of communities in Karamoja as a whole. We are pleased with the successful recovery of the raided cattle and appreciate the efforts of the joint security forces. We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent cattle rustling and ensure the security of our communities,” IP Longole said.

In late 2024, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, while touring the Karamoja sub region to assess the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), ordered security to tighten operations against warriors from both within and from the neighboring countries, including Kenya and South Sudan.

The President maintained that nobody would dare destabilize Karamoja, which he described as now a peaceful region following the successful disarmament operations conducted by the security over the years.
