The Inter-Religious Council (IRCU) has faulted the National Unity Platform (NUP) for wrongly inviting religious leaders to the Joint Prayers held in December 2023 to pray for the families of alleged kidnapped, killed, tortured, and imprisoned opposition supporters.

Most Rev.Dr.Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, who doubles as the Chairperson of the Inter-Religious Council (IRCU), blamed NUP leaders for the wrong approach used in inviting the religious leaders to their joint prayers.

According to Kaziimba, leaders of the opposition reached out to individuals in the IRCU, requesting that they attend the joint prayers instead of going through the IRCU secretariat.

He urged opposition leaders to go through the IRCU secretariat, which acts as the coordinating office of all religious leaders, instead of writing to individuals.

Kaziimba, however, said that they would continue working with the opposition leaders to ensure that Ugandans get the attention they deserve from those responsible for a better Uganda.

The archbishop said this while addressing the media at the IRCU offices in Mengo on Monday, January 22, 2024.
