IOC President’s Visit to Strengthen Ugandan Olympics

During his visit to Uganda, Bach is expected to visit the Game Connect Project in Uganda, whose initiative is funded by the Olympic Refugee Foundation, and thus this will seal Uganda’s role in the Olympic Movement.

Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) has expressed excitement as preparations are underway for the highly anticipated visit of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach, scheduled for October 22-24, 2024. This visit is going to be a landmark event for Ugandan sports, offering a unique opportunity for engagement and collaboration.

Bach will be joined by a delegation of approximately 15 individuals, and the UOC is eager about highlighting the nation’s accomplishments and deepening its relationship with the Olympic Movement during this significant visit.

The UOC President, Donald Rukare, expressed the committee’s excitement about the upcoming visit.

“We are honored and delighted to host Dr. Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee. We eagerly anticipate his interactions with athletes, Olympians, sports leaders, and senior government officials during his time here,” he said.

Rukare also highlighted Uganda’s recent achievements in the Olympics, emphasizing the nation’s increasing prominence on the international stage.

“Our star in the Olympics has been rising. Most recently, we have experienced success starting with Stephen Kiprotich. We had our best performance in Tokyo with four medals. Then in Paris, we also had medals,” he said.
