The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) has appealed to the government to support the families of students who were brutally murdered by the ADF rebels in Kasese district last Friday.

Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and also the president of IRCU,  condemned the terrorist attack on Lhubiriha Secondary School on Monday, June 19, 2023, and asked the government to consider extending support to the affected families.

“The IRCU condemns in the strongest terms the acts of terrorism, lawlessness, and extreme violence meted out against innocent students,” said Dr. Kazimba.

Archbishop Kazimba said the affected families need to be supported by the government, adding that preparations to conduct a national prayer for the Kasese people are ongoing.

“We are going to coordinate our local structures to reach out to the grieving families, the school, and the authorities to work out an arrangement for a decent burial of the deceased,” said the Archbishop.

He also prayed for the parents who lost their children and advised them to find strength in the words of God.

“Reach out to the grieving families and those who are currently in the hospital with the essential support and materials, as well as some emotional help,” said the Archbishop.

On Sunday, the First Lady and also the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, said that with the President’s assistance, they will be providing support for the bereaved families during these trying moments.

“With the President’s assistance, we’re providing support for the bereaved families during this trying time. We call upon everyone to offer prayers for the affected families and community, while also urging vigilance to uphold the safety of our children in schools,” tweeted Janet K. Museveni.
