The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Eddy Mwanje, while opening the training for the Gombolola Internal Security Officers (GISOs) at the Josa Hotel in Iganga district, asked participants to step up as effective communicators and contributors to Uganda’s development.

Mwanje said this during the launch of the ZAIDI application training developed by the Internal Security Organization (ISO) on June 25, 2024.

The ZAIDI application aims to streamline data collection for Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries nationwide, enhancing monitoring and accountability.

The training was attended by GISOs from Iganga, Bugweri, Namutumba, Bugiri, Mayuge, Namayingo, and Luuka districts.

The Regional Internal Security Officer (RISO), Ali Wagongoba, commended the GISOs for their efforts thus far and emphasized the importance of accuracy and integrity in data capture. He stressed that their commitment and honesty are going to be key to ensuring reliable data, which is crucial for effective development planning.

He lauded the GISOs for ensuring the verification of beneficiaries, demonstrating their dedication to local development.

Moses Bukenya Seguya, the Chief Administrative Officer of Iganga, highlighted the critical role of GISOs as internal controls in PDM implementation.

He noted that requiring GISOs’ signatures before fund disbursement has promoted accountability and teamwork, mitigating potential discrepancies in the process.

Reflecting on the evolving role of intelligence officers, Mwanje emphasized the importance of continuous training and adaptation. He acknowledged the historical perceptions of intelligence officers and called for a modern approach focused on community engagement and information dissemination.

Mwanje emphasized that effective reporting is essential for GISOs to demonstrate their impact on the ground. He, therefore, encouraged them to provide regular updates and solutions, ensuring transparency and public awareness of government initiatives.

Lt Gilbert Ninsiima, the team leader, urged GISOs to capitalize on digital innovations to capture accurate data, emphasizing zero tolerance for errors in the process.

This data integrity is crucial for maintaining accountability and transparency, which will also assist decision-makers in planning for the people of Uganda.
