Hamz Nakivubo Stadium, formerly referred to as Nakivubo Stadium at Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds, which was recently listed to host AFCON games, has been ruled out as unfit and lacking the required facilities to host international games.

This was announced by the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President, Eng. Moses Magogo, during a plenary session in Parliament on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

MP Magogo (Budiope East) said in a recent report by the Confederation of African Football that Nakivubo Stadium can still not host international games until certain facilities are put in place or are done in accordance with the standards.

“CAF has done an inspection, and it has a report about the stadium, and as we speak today, we can still not host any international games there until certain things are done in accordance with the standards,” Magogo said.

He noted that FUFA was not consulted by the proprietor of Nakivubo Stadium before embarking on the renovation for technical guidance.

“It will be proper because there is a lot of construction of stadiums that is going on by the private sector and also by the government that it becomes a practice that FUFA is involved to advise such that we do not get some of these challenges. To be specific about Nakivubo, we were not consulted,” Magogo noted.

Hamz Nakivubo Stadium, formerly referred to as Nakivubo Stadium at Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds, is a multi-purpose stadium in Kampala that was recently refurbished in preparation to host AFCON 2027 and CHAN 2024.

Attempts to speak to Hamis Kugundu, the proprietor of Nakivubo Stadium, proved futile since he didn’t pick up his known telephone number.
